Draft:Enem 2021

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2021's edition of Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (Enem), took place during November 21 and 28 2021, was marked by controversies of high media repercussion [1]. It has had the smallest number of applicants since 2005, when it received criticism due to the elitist profile of candidates, with significant reduction of low-income applicants [1].

In spite of being a federal public exam, applicants have normally to pay a R$ 85,00 fee to take it; some people, however, if proven their unfavourable socioeconomic status, can take it free of charge [2]. If one uses this benefit and doesn't sit the exam for some reason, it makes them unable to use it for the next edition [2]. In the 2020's edition, many people didn't sit the exam fearing the COVID-19, so the Supreme Federal Court determined these people could sitll use this benefit in the 2021's edition [3]. In november, a few days before the exam, many civil servants of Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira, the public organ in charge of Enem, had resigned en masse, revealing concerns regarding a supposed ideological manipulation by the government [4].
