El Centro Universitario de la Guardia Civil (CUGC) is the academic centre of excellence[1] supporting the activities of the Civil Guard which is a Spanish gendarmerie responsible for rural law enforcement, public safety, mountain rescue, effective border control and combatting international criminal activities. The CUGC provides higher education facilities to its agents in association with several other universities and has close links with the National University of Distance Education (UNED) and the Charles III University of Madrid (UC3M)
The CUGC is responsible to to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, through the General Directorate of the Civil Guard, and is based in Aranjuez.
Activities
[edit]- The CUGC regularly publishes a scientific outreach journal ‘’Logos’’
- For the academic year 2023-24, the Civil Guard University Centre offered the following courses, in Spanish which are generally only available to students who have satisfactorily passed their initial training as Spanish Civil Guard agents or achieved at least an international equivalent police qualification.[2]
Bachelor Degrees
[edit]These are accredited courses of four years duration leading to internationally recognised professional qualifications.
- Security Engineering is for officers to develop competence in the design, integration and management of security systems,necessary for ensuring public and private security, through from basic preventive measures through to major emergency response coordination.
- Public Security Management has the objective of training of Non-commissioned officers for access to Officer (armed forces) rank. Candidates are trained in the development of managerial actions, especially command, coordination, inspection and management of security-related services, and in particular in the optimal use of human, material and financial resources linked to public safety.
Master's degrees

- Operational security management and direction of specific policing operations
- Road and maritime transport safety including routine traffic management and the organization of exceptional operational units, the integration of air support and coordination of rescue services
- International security. and interoperation with external forces. Including embassy protection,
- Human resources management and talent exploitation.
- Comprehensive Environmental control within the Nature Protection Service.
- Economic crime suppression and counter-corruption measures.
