Draft:Ehunuikaimalino

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to the Hawaiian Historian, Davida Malo. The chief Ehunuikaimalino was killed by commoners for oppressing them. A University of Hawaiʻi publication titled, Alakaʻi, Traditional Leadership by Malcom Nāea Chun also lists Ehunuikaimalino as one of "The Despotic Chiefs". Davida Malo wrote that, "It is proper for the ruler to care for his commoners, because they are the real body of the government. Many aliʻi have been killed by the commoners because they over burdened them. Here are some aliʻi who were killed by the commoners for oppressing them...Ehunuikaimalino was an aliʻi killed covertly by fisherman at Keahuʻolu in Kona.(He mea pono i ke alii nui ke malama i kona mau makaainana iho, no ka mea oia no ke ki no ponoi [o] ke aupuni, ua nui na lii i pepehi ia e na makaainana, no ka hookaumaha i ka makaainana. Eia na lii i pepehi ia e na makaainana no ka hooluhi o..., o Ehunuikaimalino ke alii i pepehi malu ia, e ka lawaia, ma Keahuolu i Kona.)" Davida Malo was an intellectual, translator, kuʻauhau (genealogist, historian, traditions keeper). Malo was a confidant of chiefs and also in his published work advised chiefs on how to act with righteousness towards their commoners. Malo respected King Kamehameha for his ability to rule with pono (righteous) actions. This same sentiment was not shared for chief Ehunuikaimalino, as he was killed by fisherman, never to be seen again.
