The term "economic restoration" has been used to describe the economic value of ecological restoration projects, or to describe the process of beautifying an urban area. Economic restoration has not been used to describe the restoration of economic processes and functions. To follow accepted nomenclature, "economic restoration" should be used similarly to disciplines such as ecological restoration, to describe the practice of restoring a system. This definition of economic restoration is provided in "Ecosystems as Models for Restoring our Economies (To a Sustainable State), 2nd Edition": the process of rebuilding economic diversity, endogenous trade, and endogenous energy systems within a regional economy.(Giordanengo, 2025)

Conflict of Interest Note: John H. Giordanengo is the author of "Ecosystems as Models for Restoring our Economies (To a Sustainable State), 2nd Edition" and the founder of the Economic Restoration Institute.
