The Earth Saviours Foundation is a non-governmental organization in Gurugram, India> It was founded in 2008 by Ravi Kalra and aids environmental conservation and creation of public welfare initiatives.[1]
History
[edit]The organization was founded by Ravi Kalra in 2008, after an incident where Kalra saw a child and a stray dog searching for food in the same garbage pile. This moment deeply impacted him, leading him to establish an NGO aimed at serving the most vulnerable populations in society. Prior to starting TESF, Kalra had pursued a career in martial arts, achieving a 4th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo. However, he felt a sense of emptiness after achieving his personal goals and decided to dedicate his life to humanitarian work.
TESF initially faced significant challenges, including lack of support from Kalra's family, legal hurdles, and skepticism from local communities. Over time, the NGO gained recognition for its work, and in 2014, Ravi Kalra was honored with the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Award for Excellence in Humanitarian Work.[1][2]
Operations and Services
[edit]The Earth Saviours Foundation provides free-of-cost shelter, food, medical care, and rehabilitation to more than 1,000 individuals. Many of the residents include senior citizens, mentally and physically disabled persons, women who have faced abuse, and people suffering from terminal illnesses. The organization operates from its Old Age Home and Rescue Center located in Bandhwari Village, Gurugram, Haryana.
The foundation not only offers daily necessities but also organizes medical treatments, counseling, and rehabilitation services for its residents. TESF takes an inclusive approach, treating residents regardless of their religion, caste, or background. It also celebrates festivals and cultural events to foster a sense of community among the residents.[3][2][4]
Achievements and Initiatives
[edit]One of the most significant undertakings of TESF is the planned construction of what aims to be the world's largest free shelter home. Led by Ravi Kalra's son, Jas Kalra, the project is expected to accommodate over 5,000 individuals, further expanding the organization's capacity to serve the destitute.
Under Jas Kalra's leadership, TESF has made significant strides in both rescue operations and community reintegration efforts. Over 1,500 individuals have been rescued from the streets and rehabilitated, while more than 3,000 have been reunited with their families after receiving care at TESF. Additionally, Jas Kalra has taken responsibility for cremating over 2,000 unclaimed bodies with full last rites, regardless of religious affiliation. He has also performed cremation for over 100 animals and ensured the respectful disposal of their remains.[3][5]

Leadership Transition
[edit]After the passing of Ravi Kalra, his son Jas Kalra took over the leadership of the NGO. Despite being only 25 years old, Jas Kalra has demonstrated a strong commitment to continuing his father's legacy, overseeing the daily operations and long-term initiatives of TESF. Under his leadership, the organization has continued to expand its services and reach.[4]
