- Comment: Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much biographical information about this photographer in the currently cited sources. The sources are either simple database listings of her work, or is affiliated with the subject, or are simple passing mentions.I don't think the cited sources does not provide sufficient information about [SUBJECT]. Dorothy Gloster is an American photographer based in New York. She is best known for her documentary photography and participation in Collective Black Photographers[1] and the Kamoinge Workshop.[2]
Biography
[edit]Dorothy Gloster began her career in photography in 1970 when she joined the camera club at Hamilton Madison House, New York. In 1973, Gloster was awarded a New York State's Creative Artists Public Service Program (CAPS) fellowship.[3] The resulting documentary photographs of villages in Ghana and Nigeria were published in Exposure: Work by Ten Photographers (1976). In the mid-1970s, Gloster worked in photography therapy for people with mental illnesses.[1]
Gloster collaborated with American photographer Louis H. Draper on the 1974 magazine Outlook.[4] She was also a member of the Studio Museum in Harlem.[5]
Portraits of her are held at the Carnegie Museum of Art[6] and in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Archive.[7]
