Donna L. Nelson (born DOB) was a chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas from 2011 to 2017.
A South Dakota native, Nelson grew interested in legal and regulatory issues early, after working in Washington in the late 1970s for one of her home state's senators, Larry Pressler, before a cousin in Houston persuaded her to move to Texas, where she attended law school at Texas Tech University.[1]

Nelson has previously served as an assistant attorney general for the state, specializing in antitrust lawsuits. She has also been a director of the PUC’s telecommunications section and legal adviser to the PUC chairman. Most recently, she was special assistant and adviser to the governor's office on energy and telecommunications. Nelson's term begins Monday and runs through Sept. 1, 2009. She fills the seat vacated Friday by Paul Hudson.[3]
Nelson joined the PUCT in August 2008.[2][3]
