Dima Murovanni (Martial Artist)

Dima Murovanni is a Ukrainian-born martial artist and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) coach based in Berlin, Germany. He earned his black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the instructor Robert Graalfs from BJJ Akademie Berlin and is currently a coach.

Early Life and Education

Dima Murovanni (born April 23, 1993) was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later moved with his family to Leipzig, Germany, at age four. He developed an interest in martial arts early in life, leading him to pursue training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In 2017, he relocated to Berlin to train more intensively.

Martial Arts Career – Athlete

Murovanni began Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in April 2017 at BJJ Akademie Berlin and competed actively until July 2019 when he sustained a major injury during training.^[1], which required surgery and resulted in a two-year recovery period. Despite returning to the sport, he faced recurring injuries, including torn ligaments and a hernia, which ultimately led him to focus on coaching rather than competing^[2].

Injuries

Throughout his career, Murovanni encountered several significant injuries:

ACL and meniscus tear.
Scar tissue complications, requiring a second surgery.
Four torn ligaments in his hand.
Umbilical hernia.

Martial Arts Career – Coach

Murovanni’s coaching career began when he prepared athlete Jozef Chen for the ADCC European Trials. Under his guidance, Chen won the trials^[3]. Murovanni went on to coach additional athletes, including Margot Ciccarelli, who also won the ADCC European Trials in 2024^[4]. He later became head coach for the B-Team’s CJI and ADCC camps^[5], working with athletes such as Nicky Rodriguez, Owen Jones, Brianna Ste-Marie, and Chris Wojcik^[6]

The competition results of these athletes include:

Nicky Rodriguez – Winner of $1 million at CJI.
Jay Rodriguez – 2nd place at the ADCC World Championships.
Owen Jones – 4th place at the ADCC World Championships.
Chris Wojcik – 4th place at the ADCC World Championships.
Brianna Ste-Marie – 4th place at the ADCC World Championships.
