Derrick Asare Agyepong (born May 19, 1997), known professionally as Demzy Baye, is a Ghanaian dancer, choreographer, dance instructor, and musician. He is associated with the Dance with a Purpose Academy (DWP Academy) and serves as an instructor at its branches in Accra and Ho, Ghana.[1][2][3]

Early life and Education

Demzy Baye was born in Anfoegã Akukume, located in the Volta Region of Ghana. He is the son of Fredrick Agyepong and Edith Srekumah. He attended Sonrise Christian High School, where he studied General Science, and later pursued a diploma in nursing at the Nurses’ Training College in Ho, graduating in 2019.[4][5]

During his school years, Baye developed an interest in dance and formed a close partnership with his friend Endurance Grand[6], with whom he explored opportunities in the creative arts industry.[7][8][9][10][11][12]

Career

Demzy Baye[13] [14]began his professional career in dance after winning the Wosa Dance Challenge organized by Dancegodloyd in 2018. This victory earned him a spot at the DWP Academy, where he collaborated with other notable dancers and further refined his craft.

He is credited with creating the "Baye Dance Step[15]," a distinctive dance move that gained popularity for its fluidity and expressiveness[4]. He has also organized online dance challenges, including the "Kings of Dance Challenges," which have garnered significant attention on social media platforms.[16][3]

As a performer, Baye has appeared in music videos for prominent artists, including Beyoncé's Already[17] and works by Mr. Eazi, Stonebwoy, MzVee, and Gyakie. His performances have been featured on notable stages such as the Global Citizen Festival with Usher [18][19][20], the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (Now Telecel Ghana Music Awards), and 3Music Awards. Additionally, he has performed internationally in countries such as United Kindgom, Dubai, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania and Ivory Coast.

Beyond performance, Baye contributes to dance education as an instructor and choreographer at DWP Academy. His work includes teaching aspiring dancers and collaborating on outreach programs to promote dance as an art form.[12]
