Deji Ogunsakin (born April 13, 1979) is a Nigerian economist, banker, and politician. He has served as the Executive Chairman of Ado-Ekiti Local Government.[1] and was the Deputy Governorship candidate for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2018 Ekiti State gubernatorial election[2][3][4][5][6][7]. Additionally, Ogunsakin has held the position of Special Adviser on Public Procurement to the Executive Governor of Ekiti State and served as the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement and Due Process[4][6]

Early Life and Education

Deji Ogunsakin was born in 1979 to the family of Alhaji Bello Shola Ogunsakin, a philanthropist and businessman who was also the Baba Adinni of Ado-Ekiti[8].

Deji attended Ekiti Baptist High School in Igede-Ekiti for his secondary education[9]. He pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics at the University of Ado-Ekiti[4][5], now known as Ekiti State University. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Lagos[4][5] and a Master of Science in Conflict, Peace and Strategic Studies from Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti.

Career

Ogunsakin began his career in the banking sector[5], working at Ecobank Plc for about a decade[8]. He later transitioned into politics, serving as the Executive Chairman of Ado-Ekiti Local Government from 2015 to 2017[10][11]. In 2018, he served as the Special Adviser on Public Procurement to the Executive Governor of Ekiti State and served as the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement and Due Process[6]. Later that year, he was selected as the Deputy Governorship candidate for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ekiti State gubernatorial election.[12][13][2][14][15]

Ogunsakin is also involved in consultancy and the hospitality business. He is recognized as the Patron (Babaloja) of Traders in Ekiti State.

Personal Life

Deji Ogunsakin is married to Dr. (Mrs.) Folashade Ogunsakin, a medical doctor[8]. He is a firm believer in youth engagement and empowerment for leadership and is considered a prominent figure in the Ekiti political arena.
