Background

[edit]

Deddy Ratnanto began his career in information technology in the early 2010s after graduating from Gunadarma University with a degree in Information Systems in 1995. He has taken on roles as a technology specialist with a focus on software development and big data analysis. Deddy has developed and managed various open-source projects that focus on cutting-edge technologies such as NLP and data analysis.[1]

Deddy's activities on GitHub include over 500 repositories, where he has contributed to various projects, including data scraping tools and network analysis. Additionally, Deddy is active on the Hugging Face platform, a hub for AI and ML innovation, where he continues to contribute and learn.

In addition to his contributions to the technology field, Deddy has also played an important role in combating the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia as the Head of IT Infrastructure at the COVID-19 Task Force. He led the development of the Bersatu Lawan Covid (BLC) information system, which integrates national data to monitor and oversee the development of COVID-19 cases in real-time.[2] Deddy also contributed to handling forest and land fires (Karhutla) in 2020 by developing the Lancang Kuning Nusantara system, which successfully detected and extinguished thousands of fire points in Riau, keeping the area smoke-free.[3]

Furthermore, Deddy has been involved with the BNPT (National Counter Terrorism Agency) in developing the Peaceful Media Center (PMD), which focuses on preventing radicalism and terrorism in cyberspace. Through Big Data filtering technology and Natural Language Processing (NLP), he helped monitor and analyze online content with radical potential using AI, and developed media strategies to raise awareness about peace messages throughout Indonesia.[4] He also traveled across Indonesia for three years, providing IT training to young generations as part of anti-radicalism and anti-terrorism efforts.

In 1999-2000, Deddy was also known for his involvement in developing malware and computer viruses named "Robocop." The Robocop.A variant modifies infected Excel files and adds the text "ROBOCOP Nightmare Joker [SLAM]" on March 1. Another variant, Robocop.B, displays the message "Happy Birthday Deddy Ratnanto!" on October 25 whenever an infected Excel file is opened or Excel is started. This virus spread widely across the globe.[5]
