David Wyrick (born December 11, 1969), is an former collegiate baseball player at Milligan University, formerly Milligan College [1] and a current American high school baseball coach. In his career, he has been head coach at St. Paul High School, J. J. Kelly High School, and is currently at Union High School (Big Stone Gap, Virginia).

Career

Wyrick's most successful year came during 2008 when he led the Indians of J.J. Kelly High School to win the Virginia High School League State Championship.[2] Wyrick is currently the head coach at Union High School (Big Stone Gap, Virginia) where he has seen recent success.[3] He is known for his tenacity and competitive nature on the field. Wyrick has been ejected from a total of two VHSL baseball games and one junior varsity girls basketball game. His most notable assistant coach is longtime assistant David Gregory.[4]

Personal life

Wyrick attended Powell High School where he was named to the 1988 All Knoxville Baseball team. He later attended Milligan University (formerly Milligan College) where he studied and played baseball. While at Milligan, Wyrick was named to the first team 1989 All Conference TN Junior College Athletic Association and first team 1989 Region 7 (TN/KY) Junior College Athletic Association. He currently teaches Business at Union High School (Big Stone Gap, Virginia) [5] with his friends Josh Christian, Cheyenne Osborne, and Noah Hall. Wyrick is also a bus driver for Wise County Public Schools. He is known for his good attitude and willingness to volunteer for anything to help the school.

His current hobbies include reciting poetry at Buccees and reading Hardy Boys mystery novels. Wyrick prefers to spend his mornings eating frosted fudge Pop Tarts and watching hummingbirds. His favorite actor is Nicolas Cage, favorite movie is The Godfather, and favorite TV shows are Dukes of Hazzard and Hogan's Heroes. His bucket list concert is see Donny Osmond perform.
