David Fung (15 October 1933 – 23 July 2015) was a New Zealand neurologist, historian, and community leader of Chinese heritage. He and his wife Esther played a key role in securing the New Zealand government apology for the Chinese poll tax delivered in 2002.^[1]^[2]

Early Life

Fung was born in a village in Guangzhou, China, in 1933. The son of a reverend, Fung and his family were displaced when the Japanese occupation reached Guangdong Province, and they relocated to Hong Kong.
