Dauda Suleiman (born March 3rd, 1988) known professionally as Hi-Speed, is a Nigerian Afro-pop/ Hip-hop singer, Songwriter, and record producer. He is regarded as one of the most important Afro-pop/ Hip-hop artists of the 21st century, and for popularizing the genre globally [1].

Early Life

Hi-Speed was born on the 3rd of March in1988 in Agassa, Okene local government of Kogi State Nigeria, He completed his Primary school Education at LGEA Primary School Agassa, Okene, Kogi state in 1996. He started his secondary school at Local government Secondary school Agassa, 1996 - 2001, and later proceed to Local government Secondary School Upogoro, 2001 - 2002 where he obtained his SSCE. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he had his first degree in industrial design then proceeded to the maritime academy of Nigeria where he had his PGD in maritime transport technology[2][3].

Music Career

He began his music career in 2007 with his brother and singing partner. After his brother passed away in 2020, HI-SPEED music career slowed down for a while. He spent some time working on his craft and preparing his team for the release of his EP. On May 20th, HI-SPEED released his new body of work, which received positive feedback from his fans. On November 25 2022, HI-SPEED released his album "Precious Gift", which demonstrated his variety and skill, featuring collaborations with well-known artists such as Peruzzi, Ice Prince, Zule zoo, Terry Akpala, and others. HI-SPEED music reaches beyond his home state, as his distinctive sound and performance have attracted interest and appreciation nationwide. He has become a role model and motivator for aspiring musicians in Kogi State, showing that talent, determination and hard work can lead to success in the music industry[4][5].

2020-2021: "Everything Good EP"

After the dark night comes sunshine that gives hope and a better life. Fast-rising Singer, Rapper and Songwriter, Dauda Suleiman, popular as Hi-Speed feels good with the release of his much-talked-about EP, entitled ‘Everything Good‘.

After he lost his brother and singing partner to the cold hands of death about two years ago, Hi-Speed’s music career experienced a lull that silenced him for a while but the singer said the sober moment was necessary to mourn his good brother and friend.

According to Hi-Speed, Everything Good EP is a music project that signals the birth of a new beginning for his career after troubled times. However, reflecting the joy of how he feels, at this moment long waited for and he could not wait to share the good vibes with his loyal fans.[6]

2022-2023: "Precious Gift EP"

Some gifts are big while some are small. But the ones that come from the heart are the best precious gift of all. For Dauda Suleiman artistically known as Hi-Speed, music remains his precious gift ever.

The new EP featured artiste like Jesse Jagz, Terry Apala, Peruzzi, Di’ja, Jay Teazer and few others. Hi-Speed made known that music has been the most precious gift of his life and the new EP will definitely showcase more about his talent as musician and entertainer.

Speaking further he disclosed that the artistes featured in the EP are carefully selected and the tune is pretty different from his usual style and it’s going to make huge impact in the music scene, he boasted[7].

2024: "Onono featuring Ice Prince"

The song, named after the Ebira word for “Beautiful” tells the story of a woman who stands out for her elegance, poise, and exemplary behavior amidst a world where many have lost touch with these qualities[8].

Hi-Speed and Ice Prince deliver smooth, rhythmic verses and harmonies that highlight the importance of having a woman like “Onono” – a rare gem who embodies both beauty and character.
