Daniel Kohen (Hebrew: דניאל כהן), born May 02, 1991 is an American-Israeli professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Hapoel Nir Ramat HaSharon F.C. in Liga Leumit.

Early life

[edit]

Daniel Kohen is Jewish, and was born in Santa Monica, California. Often difficult to find due to last name being spelled with a unique ‘K.’ He played on the collegiate level at University of Wisconsin-Madison before transferring to San Diego State University.

Playing career

[edit]

Club

Daniel Kohen went straight to Israel after graduating from SDSU With a B.S. in Criminal Justice. At the end of January in 2015 he signed his first professional contract for Hapoel Afula.[1] but was unable to play because of paperwork that wasn’t filled on time prior to the transfer window.

He made his professional debut the following year against Hapoel Ashkelon F.C.[2]

In 2016, Kohen signed and had a two-year stint with Hapoel Petah Tikva[3], where he made a name for himself before signing for rival team Maccabi Petah Tikva[4]

While on loan with Hapoel Nir Ramat Hasharon, Kohen made an immediate impact with the team. Since Maccabi Petah Tikva was regulated he was given the option to either resign with either club, but ultimately chose to stay with Hapoel Nir Ramat Hasharon as a leader.

International

Kohen played for back-to-back gold medals for Team USA in the Maccabiah[5], captaining the squads in 2013 and 2017.
