Corisande Armandine Sophie Leonice Helene Bennet (de Gramont) (5 October 1782 – 23 January 1865), was an Aristocrat and Socialite who belonged to the family of Gramont, by marriage to Charles Bennet, 5th Earl of Tankerville; she was Countess of Tankerville.
Early Life
[edit]Corisande de Gramont was born on October 5, 1789[1], she was the eldest and first-born child to Antoine-Louis, 1st Duc de Gramont et Guiche [2] and his wife; Aglaé de Polignac.
As the grand-daughter of Yolande de Polastron, favourite of Marie Antoinette[3]. Corisande's family were given many benefits and were warmly embraced as 'family' to the Queen.
In the year of 1789, following up with the outbreak of the French Revolution, Corisande and her parents; including her younger sister Aglaé de Gramont and step-brother Héraclius de Gramont, 9th Duke of Gramont were forced to flee because of her maternal grandmother's relationship with the Queen of France. After they traversed several European countries, her family finally settled in Mitau, where they lived with prominent members of the royal family coming from France.
Marriage
[edit]On July 28, 1806, Corisande now aged 24, married Charles Bennet, 5th Earl of Tankerville.[4] Following the preceding with the marriage, Corisande was Countess consort of Tankerville. The pair produced a male and female; Charles Bennet, 5th Earl of Tankerville, (1776-1859), and Lady Corisande Bennet (1807-1876).[5]
Death
[edit]Following the death of her husband on June 25, 1859. The now widowed Corisande was later stripped of her title as Countess of Tankerville. On January 23, 1865, the elderly dowager Corisande died in London, United Kingdom. Corisande outlived both her siblings; her sister, Aglaé de Gramont by 23 years and her step-brother,Héraclius de Gramont, 9th Duke of Gramont by a decade. [6]

[edit]Through her son; Charles Bennet, 6th Earl of Tankerville. She was grandmother of Lady Corisande Olivia Bennet, Charles Bennet, Lady Ida Bennet, Countess of Dalhousie, and George Bennet, 7th Earl of Tankerville.
