The Consular & Diplomatic Service University (CDSU), previously known as the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), is a premier nonprofit diplomatic training institute founded under the continental treaty and declaration of the General Assembly of the African Union Youth Assembly (AUYA). The CDSU is responsible for diplomatic training and academic collaboration operations within the International Relations and Diplomacy department of the African Diplomatic Organization (ADO), formerly known as the African Union Youth Assembly (AUYA).[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Establishment & Mission
[edit]Originally established as the Foreign Service Institute in 2015, CDSU was founded in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security. The initiation and patronage of Hussein, Crown Prince of Jordan emphasized the importance of increasing youth representation in decision-making at all levels. In its early years, the institution was affiliated with the United Nations University. By 2017, it had transitioned to a fully-fledged autonomous nonprofit university and was renamed the Consular & Diplomatic Service University (CDSU). It eventually adopted its current designation under the continental Independent Treaty of the 54 countries that formed part of the permanent signatories to AUYA.[7]
History
[edit]The first International Diplomatic Training for Emerging Leaders & Diplomats organized by CDSU was held in Accra, Ghana, at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre. This was followed by a second training event at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration, Ghana. These significant milestones were attended by notable figures such as the Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, former President Jerry John Rawlings, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and current President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who served as keynote speakers. Distinguished guests such as Jeffrey D. Sachs and his wife, Sonia Ehrlich Sachs, also visited during these events.[8][9]
