Draft:Consensys Mesh

  • Comment: This article has very poor referencing with large sections obviously based on original research. The footnotes present don't support the contents as they are either used to establish inherited notability or because they refer to unreliable sources. The article also uses hardly encyclopedic tone and style. I strongly recommend you gather proper sources that discuss the subject and that you rewrite the article from scratch. Entering into that process will quickly reveal whether sources exist that warrant the creation of an article. --Johannes (Talk) (Contribs) (Articles) 10:31, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

Consensys AG, doing business as Consensys Mesh (or “Mesh” for short), is a private company  based in Switzerland that invests in blockchain technology. Founded in 2015[1] by Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin, Consensys Mesh supports individuals, projects, and protocols involved in building web3.

History

[edit]

Consensys Mesh was founded in 2015[2], originally doing business as ConsenSys (an abbreviation for “Consensus Systems,” referencing the consensus mechanisms underlying blockchain technology). The organization gained recognition as an early innovator in the blockchain industry, focusing on the development of decentralized software services and applications based on the Ethereum blockchain through a venture studio model.

Over the years, ConsenSys played a signficant role[3] in the Ethereum ecosystem, incubating projects like MetaMask, Gnosis, Gitcoin, and Infura. In 2020, ConsenSys spun out several of its infrastructure projects into a separate company, Consensys Software Inc. (now commonly referred to simply as “Consensys”). Following this, the original entity was rebranded as Consensys Mesh the same year.

Consensys Mesh manages a portfolio of over 170 investments. The projects within Consensys Mesh’s portfolio cover a diverse range of sectors including decentralized finance (DeFi), decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), infrastructure, art, social media, entertainment, gaming, and more.

Led by Robert Drost, the team was established to address challenges related to scaling the Ethereum blockchain, including issues of usability, capacity, security, and performance. The team's work has encompassed various areas[21] within Web3 protocols and ecosystems, with specialized groups focusing on topics such as AI, enterprise zero-knowledge proofs, gaming, digital identity, and state channels.

Tachyon

[edit]

Founded in 2017, Tachyon was the first web3 accelerator[22]. Through Tachyon, Consensys Mesh has helped nearly one hundred companies[23] globally raise funds and launch.

The program is managed by the Consensys Mesh team with support from its network of web3 leaders serving as mentors to program participants.
