The Churnat Grenade was a improvised defensive grenade made by the founder of the Churnat industry Alekos Papageorgiou, and used by the Greek resistance organization EAM-ELAS during World War II 1941-1944.

The needs of the war preoccupied the restless Papageorgiou all this time. He was inspired an method of making improvised defensive grenades with materials he could find in Pharmacies in those years. Almost all Pharmacies without much explanation gave the necessary materials for the needs of the race. Sulfur and potassium chloride. He particularly mentions the Pharmacy of Sporou.

Inside cut small tubes, he put the aforementioned materials together with nails and with a grenade ring of his own inspiration, he made the defensive grenades. At the test of the first improvised grenade at Fournas, the grenade was so effective that the English army present they could not believe it. Major Kint proposed to send him to England but he Denied.
