Early Life

[edit]

Chief Christopher Chike Chigbue (Senior Advocate of Nigeria) (SAN), Officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR), was born on the 14th of September 1956 at Paddington General Hospital, London, to the Late Honourable Justice VJO Chigbue (Retired Justice of the Court of Appeal) and once Acting Chief Justice of Kaduna, and Mrs. Justina Nkechi Chigbue (a retired Chief Inspector of Education in Lagos State).[1].

Chike started his primary school education at Islington Primary School, London, N1. He returned to Nigeria in March 1962[2].

Chike continued his primary education at Surulere Baptist School, Lagos, in 1963, and completed it at St. Peter's Catholic School, Ogwashi-Uku, in 1968, due to the outbreak of the Nigerian Civil War[3].

He attended secondary school at St. Anthony’s College, Ubulu-Uku, and later St. Pius Grammar School, Onitsha-Ugbo[4].

Chike obtained his higher school certificate from St. Patrick’s College, Asaba[5].

He earned an LLB (Hons) from the University of Ife and graduated in 1979, followed by a BL from the Nigerian Law School in 1980[6].

Chike represented Shehu Musa Yar'Adua in 1995, contesting that his detention by the military government was a violation of his human rights[9]. He also represented the Governorship of Adamawa state in 1999, where the Supreme Court decided that the Deputy Governor-elect should be sworn in as Governor when the Governor-elect (Alhaji Atiku Abubakar GCON) had been nominated as the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria[10].

[edit]

Chike won the IRVING & BONAR and Faculty of Law Awards as the best graduating law student of 1979 at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University[11].
