Chaz Rainey is an American attorney, entertainment executive, and producer, recognized for his expertise in entertainment law, intellectual property, and business affairs. He serves as the Managing Director of Rainey LLP and the Head of Legal and Business Affairs for the publicly traded media company Kartoon Studios (NYSE: TOON). He is also an independent director for various businesses operating in the media and entertainment industries.[1]

  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English with highest honors from the University of California, Berkeley (2002).[2]
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) with cum laude distinction and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with summa cum laude distinction from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (2007).
  • Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Law and Legal Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) (2015).

Career

Chaz began his legal career at an AMLAW 25 firm before joining a sports gambling startup as its first employee. The startup was later acquired by Caesars Entertainment for $3 billion.[3] He subsequently became the managing partner of a boutique law firm specializing in entertainment litigation, intellectual property, and international investment disputes.

Chaz later served as a partner at the Los Angeles-based law firm Hamrick & Evans, where he managed the firm’s entertainment transactions practice. During this time, he represented independent filmmakers, directors, writers, and on-screen talent.[4] As General Counsel for Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment, he played a pivotal role in resolving a multimillion-dollar dispute involving the late comic book icon Stan Lee's name and likeness rights.[5]

Currently, he oversees Kartoon Studios’ legal affairs, managing subsidiaries like Frederator, Mainframe Studios, and Kartoon Channel.

Executive Roles and Business Ventures

Beyond legal practice, Chaz has executive produced films and owns the independent record label Modern Dominion Records, IP development company Modern Dominion Media, and online retailer Not So Ordinary Apparel.
