Charleton Hunt (December 3, 1801 – December 27, 1836) was an American lawyer who served as the first mayor of Lexington, Kentucky from 1832 to 1834.
Early life and career
[edit]Hunt was born on December 3, 1801.[1] The eldest son of American businessman John Wesley Hunt.[2] He studied law at Transylvania University.[1] Cholera epidemic in Lexington, Kentucky. He died of scarlet fever[3]
Death and legacy
[edit]Hunt was described as holding a "prominent position" in his law profession at the time of his death on December 27, 1836.[1] Historian Robert Peter wrote he died "as a future full of promise was opening to him" and that "few men have been more beloved in Lexington."[1] Hunt's Row built in 1836 was named by the Lexington City Council after him.[4]
Hunt's nephew John Hunt Morgan was a Confederate general in the American Civil War.[5]
