Charleton Hunt (December 3, 1801 – December 27, 1836) was an American lawyer who served as the first mayor of Lexington, Kentucky from 1832 to 1834.

Early life and career

Hunt was born on December 3, 1801.[1] The eldest son of American businessman John Wesley Hunt.[2] He studied law at Transylvania University.[1] Cholera epidemic in Lexington, Kentucky. He died of scarlet fever[3]

Death and legacy

Hunt was described as holding a "prominent position" in his law profession at the time of his death on December 27, 1836.[1] Historian Robert Peter wrote he died "as a future full of promise was opening to him" and that "few men have been more beloved in Lexington."[1] Hunt's Row built in 1836 was named by the Lexington City Council after him.[4]

Hunt's nephew John Hunt Morgan was a Confederate general in the American Civil War.[5]
