History

[edit]

Until August 10, 1757, Carlsbourg was called "Saussure," because there were osier willows there. Its current name was given to it by Charles Godefroy de la Tour, the sovereign Duke of Bouillon.[7]

During World War II and the Battle of the Bulge, Carlsbourg was the location of one of the 107th Evacuation Hosptials.[8][9]

The commune of Carlsbourg was created in 1900, when it was split off from Paliseul. Carlsbourg was an independent commune until the merger in 1977.[10]
