First Formation[edit]

The band Started out when the guitarist Dale Stewart started working at Tower Records (A record store in the tower district of Fresno). Dale soon joined a local punk band called The Subtractions. While Dale was working at Tower Records, Dale met a man named Eric Tsuda (a local Fresno skater). Dale would talk with Eric and invited him to see The Subtractions play. Dale met his future wife Joceylin Fedrau in the crowd at one of the Subtractions gigs. He soon left The Subtractions. after a few months and Dale and Joceylin got together. Soon enough Joceylin and Dale started a new wave band called Altered Features. Both Joceylin and Dale idolized The Dead Kennedys and Black Flag and wanted to start a punk band and not new wave. Eric Tsuda would soon join Dale and Joceylin to start a punk band. Eric mentioned that he knew a sixteen year old Keith Johnson who could play the drums at a "High Tempo". The first lineup of Capitol punishment would have Eric on Lead Voclas, Dale on Lead Guitar, Joceylin on Bass, And Keith on Drums. The Band played they're first gig July 4, 1981 with The Dead Kennedys, The Fix, And 7 Seconds at the Belmont Ballroom in Fresno. They would soon play gigs at Roeding Park, And Woodward Park with other up and coming Fresno punk bands Maniax, NBJ, and The Frigidettes to name a few. The fist lineup of Capitol Punishment soon broke up after Eric and Keith moved out of Fresno.
