Burlington Housing Authority is an independent nonprofit^[1] public housing authority in parts of Chittenden County, Vermont.^[2] It is the oldest and largest municipally chartered housing authority in Vermont.^[3] The Executive Director as of 2023 is Steven Murray.^[4] It is managed by a board of five, with members appointed by the Burlington mayor, though the authority is not a city department.^[5] There exists a resident advisory board ^[6]. BHA is known to manage properties, to charge rent on properties it manages, ^[7] to hear complaints related to public housing in Burlington,^[8] to provide rent assistance^[9] ^[10] ^[11] (in 2016, it allocated 1,800 rental vouchers under Section 8),^[12] and to help Section 8 voucher holders find housing.^[13] A majority of BHA's $22 million budget comes from HUD.^[14]
