Burlington Housing Authority is an independent nonprofit[1] public housing authority in parts of Chittenden County, Vermont.[2] It is the oldest and largest municipally chartered housing authority in Vermont.[3] The Executive Director as of 2023 is Steven Murray.[4] It is managed by a board of five, with members appointed by the Burlington mayor, though the authority is not a city department.[5] There exists a resident advisory board [6]. BHA is known to manage properties, to charge rent on properties it manages, [7] to hear complaints related to public housing in Burlington,[8] to provide rent assistance[9] [10] [11] (in 2016, it allocated 1,800 rental vouchers under Section 8),[12] and to help Section 8 voucher holders find housing.[13] A majority of BHA's $22 million budget comes from HUD.[14]
