Buoy Health Inc is a Boston-based digital health company.[1] It has database of over 18,000 clinical encounters, which includes symptoms, risk factors, and diagnoses from 5 million patients.[2] In November, 2020 it received funding of $37 million from Cigna, Humana, Optum and United Health.[3]

It was founded on August 1st, 2014, by Andrew Le, a Harvard Medical School and MIT graduate, and his friend Eddie Reyes.[4] Le started Buoy Health to address the misinformation and confusion that often arises when people search online for symptoms and health concerns.[5] Le claimed that Buoy's Covid symptom checker was accessible to 190 million people when the company rushed to include COVID-19 symptoms in the program in January 2020.[6]

Funding[edit]

In 2017, it raised $6.7 million in a round co-led by Fidelity Investments.[7] Bill Hambrecht lead a $15 million funding round for Buoy Health in 2019.[1] In its 2020 funding round, a Series C investment, the company raised $37 million.[8] The round was co-led by the venture arms of major insurers, including Cigna, Humana, Optum and United Health, this investment round valued Buoy Health at just under $200 million.[6]
