Briana Cash

[edit]

Briana Cash is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and actress who graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and has worked in the TV and Film industry as a singer-songwriter and music supervisor. Cash has also released four albums, All I Want (2008), All Around Me, It’s Christmas (2013), Sunlight After Midnight (2014) and Disguise (2015). Cash’s original music has been considered in 8 categories at the 58th annual Grammy Awards in 2016.[1][2]

Cash’s most recent release, “Ancestral Sin”, is a collaboration with Malynda Hale.[3]

Early Life

[edit]

Briana Cash was born in Orlando, FL. She began her career at age 9 after being accepted into the Bach Festival Concert choir, a group that typically only accepted 12-year olds and up. She also participated in elite choirs and other caroling groups throughout her childhood, which led to performing at Disney's theme parks, Universal Studios - Holidays in the park, and Epcot candlelight. She traveled to Boston, MA often at an early age, spent many holidays visiting family and eventually moved to Newburyport, MA in the middle of her junior year of high school. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated.

Career

[edit]

After graduating college, Cash stayed in the Boston area and continued working on music through writing, playing shows, and teaching. Cash performed at a benefit concert to raise money for Susan G. Komen at the Boston Hard Rock Cafe in 2009.

In 2013, Cash released a Christmas album, “All Around Me, It’s Christmas” which features two original songs, “It’s Christmas Time and I Feel Love” along with the title track. One year later in 2014, Broadway star Christine Dwyer covered Cash’s original Christmas songs, “All Around Me, It’s Christmas” and “It’s Christmas Time and I Feel Love,”[4][5] each recorded by Oscar nominated and Grammy winner Robert L. Smith of Defy Recordings with orchestration by Bruno Valenti. Mixed and Mastered by Lewis Robertson of OwlCove Studios and released as singles. In 2015, Cash collaborated again with Dwyer with the release of her single “Mangifera”.

Cash is also a member of multiple music industry organizations, including The Society of Composers and Lyricists, The Alliance for Women Film Composers[6], The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Guild of Music SupervisorsSAG-AFTRA, SONA and a voting member of The Recording Academy.

In 2015, Cash served as a Composer and Music Supervisor for Season 3 of the show Wineram on Amazon Prime.[7]

In 2016, Cash’s two albums “Sunlight After Midnight” and “Disguise”, along with the song “Mangifera” featuring Christine Dwyer were considered in eight categories at the 58th annual Grammy Awards.[1]

In 2019, Cash collaborated with Malynda Hale on the song “Ancestral Sin”, co-produced by Oscar winner Giosue Greco.[3]

In 2020, Interscope artist whose legal name is Brianna Castro adopted “Briana Cash” as her professional name, thus beginning a trademark dispute. Cash has been performing under her birth name, also her professional name, for over 15 years and holds the registered trademark for her name and brand, BRIANA CASH®. Cash has appeared in multiple interviews discussing the matter.[8][9][10][11][2]

Blues artist Anita White who performs under the stage name Lady A, who is also going through a trademark dispute when the band Lady Antebellum assumed her name[12], has discussed and mentioned Cash’s situation in numerous interviews of her own.[13][14]

Cash partakes in acting and has had roles in films such as Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, Cliffs of Freedom and Hotel Artemis.[15][16]

Activism

[edit]

Cash is a proud advocate for many charities related to animal welfare, human rights (Black Lives Matter, No Kid Hungry), and environmental issues related to global warming and climate change. Cash licensed her award-winning song, “Take a Walk With Me”, to Susan G. Komen for the Cure as a donation for use in their 2010 National Campaign. Cash also recorded three Public Service Announcements for the cause. “Take a Walk With Me” is on a short list of approved licensed songs with artists such as Melissa Etheridge.
