Brian Whitney is an American True Crime Writer and ghostwriter who lives on the coast of Maine. Whitney has written over 30 published books, three of which have been optioned for film.
Long interested in prisoners' rights, Whitney worked as a prisoner advocate for the ACLU. This led him to work with Gil Valle[1] who was best known as The Cannibal Cop and the subject of the HBO documentary Thought Crimes.
Whitney has worked with many people including Charity Lee[2] subject of the documentary The Family I Had. Whitney has also worked with Nic Edwards host of True Crime Garage on the book The Delphi Murders..[3] His book with Slava Pastuk Bad Trips[4] will be adapted into a television show in 2025, airing on Crave TV.
Other co-authors of note include Son of Sam Shooting victim Carl Denaro,,[5] Stalking victim Susan Fensten,,[6] and the Host of Operation UnderCover[7] Lou Valoze.[8]
Whitney is the only person ever to interview Canadian killer Luka Magnotta.[9] Whitney's book My Son the Killer was optioned for the Netflix documentary Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer. [10]
Whitney's work has been featured in Newsweek, Esquire, Inside Edition, Dr. Phil, Fox News, and People.com. He has written for Alternet, Paste Magazine, and Pacific Standard Magazine. He has appeared at Crimecon with Gil Valle and Catherine Townsend.[11] He has been a guest on some of the most popular true crime podcasts in the world, including True Murder, True Crime Garage, and Last Podcast on the Left.[12]
Whitney has written frequently about his struggle with poverty and addiction.
