Inside a Felix Black Cat Bus

The Black Cat was a bus service established by Felix Buses of Stanley. It ran from Derby City Centre through Stanley, then to Ilkeston. Trentbarton also ran buses on this route that ran from Derby City Centre via Ilkeston, Heanor, Eastwood and Sutton-in-Ashfield to Mansfield. It is now the Trentbarton 32[1]

History

[edit]
Black Cat, previously number 12

In 1924, Norman Frost’s Felix buses began running from Ilkeston to Derby. Around 1986, the bus was numbered 12. Before this, the service was just referred to as a service than ran from Derby to Ilkeston. Competition arose around this time with the Trent 120 service which ran from Derby to Mansfield via Ilkeston. Later on, the number 12 route was renamed to the Black Cat & Trent quickly followed suit and rename’s their 120 service also to the Black Cat.

Trentbarton

[edit]

Around 2012, Felix was bought out by Wellglade Group (Trentbarton’s parent company). Trentbarton then became the sole operator of the service. This removed the Derby to Ilkeston services and left the Derby to Mansfield via Ilkeston service. Demand for the service declined since coronavirus, Trentbarton has since split the services.
