Bill Teegins was a sportscaster for Oklahoma State University and the Sports Director for News 9. On January 27, 2001, Teegins died at the age of 48 during a plane crash which was carrying two Oklahama Cowboys players and six staff members.[1][2] Teegins, a Minnesota native,[2] was named Oklahoma Sportscaster of the Year eight times.[1][3][4] The Bill Teegins Award is named in his honor and is presented each year to sportscasters with Oklahoma ties.[5] In 2002, Teegins was posthumously inducted into the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.[6][5] Teegins's funeral was attended by upwards of 1400 people. He was a member of the Lord of Life Church in Edmond, which only had seating for 200. Instead his funeral was held at Edmond's First Baptist with seating for 1,800.[7]
