The Bicivia is a network of bike lanes aimed at connecting the entire Barcelona metropolitan area by bicycle. Currently, around 66% (around 360 km) of the network is completed and functional, as of December 2024, compared to the total 545 km of bike lanes when completed.[1]
History
[edit]The Bicivia cycling network was established in 2016, with 25% of the network in operation. From 2016 onwards, the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona, together with the other public administrations within the territory, dedicate different strategies for the design and construction of new bike lanes for the network. As result of these investments, as of December 2024, around 66% of the network is operational.[2]
Network
[edit]The network is planned to measure 545 km when completed, including basic and secondary network. The basic network consists of 201 km and the secondary network of 213 km. The network consists of nine primary cycle corridors, four of them vertical from north to south and the other five horizontal from east to west.
