Draft:Benevilla

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benevilla is a non-profit that supports the residents of the West Valley of Phenix by serving older adults, adults with disabilities, children and the families who care for them.[1]

History

[edit]

Benevilla was established as a non-profit organization in 1981 by residents of the Sun Cities area who were concerned about the lack of available local services. Their mission was to enhance health and independence by offering supportive services to the community.[1]

Initially, the organization was run by 30 volunteers who assisted with errands and home care, along with a few employees. Today, Benevilla has expanded into a comprehensive network that includes Life Enrichment Day Programs, a variety of support and educational services, extensive care management programs, and social activities. This network is now supported by over 500 volunteers and more than 100 employees, all dedicated to helping individuals remain independent and stay in their own homes.[1]

Life Enrichment Day Programs

Life Enrichment Day Program Locations:

[edit]

Lucy Anne's Place

[edit]

The environment at Lucy Anne’s Place fosters a sense of discovery, warmth, and safety, catering to members with early to mid-stage dementia-related conditions. This program also supports individuals with Parkinson’s disease, stroke survivors, and those recovering from fall-related injuries. It offers a club-like atmosphere with both communal and private spaces, gardens, music, exercise, and engaging, innovative activities[2].

As the only day program in Arizona specializing in early to mid-stage dementia, Lucy Anne’s Place also pioneers intergenerational programming in the state. This unique approach integrates activities with children from Wirtzie’s Preschool and Child Care, creating meaningful interactions between adult members and young children. This enriching exchange not only fosters optimism and self-care among older adults but also enhances their attention spans and overall well-being.[2]

Mary's Place

[edit]

Mary’s Place caters to individuals with moderate to advanced Alzheimer’s and other related dementias. It is also designed for people with Parkinson’s disease, stroke survivors, or those recovering from fall-related injuries. Our tailored program integrates healthcare with life-enriching therapeutic activities, addressing each person's unique needs. At Mary’s Place, we emphasize the individual strengths and personal histories of our members, aiming to enhance their overall well-being.[2]

West Valley

[edit]

This program serves residents of Peoria, Glendale, and West Phoenix, including stroke survivors, individuals with Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s/dementia, and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.[2]

Our dynamic program provides support to a diverse group with varying care needs. Activities are tailored to accommodate specific physical challenges, ensuring inclusive participation for everyone. Members benefit from a welcoming, club-like environment, complemented by the support of exceptional professionals and committed volunteers who focus on meeting each individual's personal needs.[2]

Benefitness Adaptive Gym

[edit]

The Benefitness Adaptive Gym, located on the main campus of the nonprofit Benevilla, was established with the aim of demonstrating that physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle are accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities.[4]

Unlike traditional gyms, which are generally designed for able-bodied individuals, the Benefitness Adaptive Gym offers a unique and inclusive environment tailored for people with diverse abilities, special needs, and ongoing clinical requirements. The gym features specialized equipment and facilities designed to accommodate various physical limitations, including wheelchair accessibility. Equipment in the Benefitness Adaptive Gym includes adjustable heights and positions, allowing exercises to be performed while standing, sitting, or using a walker. Additionally, the machines are adaptable for both upper and lower body workouts.[4]

C.A.R.E.S. Program

[edit]

Benevilla is dedicated to linking community members with top-quality community resources. The Benevilla C.A.R.E.S. (Community Assistance, Resources, Education, and Support) Department offers resource-based assistance for older adults, caregivers, and the broader community. Staffed by highly trained Resource Coordinators, the C.A.R.E.S. Department manages a comprehensive database of senior-focused support services, products, and providers across Arizona. These Coordinators utilize these resources to identify customized solutions for the needs of older adults, families, caregivers, and others in need.[5]
