Be Like Pablo are an indie Power pop band from Forres, Scotland.[1] Their music has been described as "witty, infectious geek rock"[2] and compared to Weezer[3] and The Cars.[4]
History
[edit]Be Like Pablo was formed in 2010 by brothers Ewen and Ross Watson along with Jamie Murphy[5]. They released their first studio album, The New Adventures in 2013 on Stray Cat Records (UK/internationally) and ThisTime Records (Japan).[6] Between 2017 and 2019, they released a series of singles, recorded by Oppenhemer's Rocky O'Reilly.[7]
They have performed on BBC Radio One, BBC Radio Scotland,[8] STV's Live at Five[9] and at music festivals such as T in the Park, Rockness and the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.
Critical Reception
[edit]Be Like Pablo has been championed by BBC Radio DJs including Dermot O'Leary,.[10] Steve Lamacq[11] and Vic Galloway.[12] Their music has been positively received by Clash,[13] Isthismusic?[14], The Edinburgh Evening News[3] and The Scotsman[1]
The Sun newspaper described the New Adventures as being 'packed full of hooks, sparkling instrumentation and glorious harmonies.'[15]
Following the release of their single There She Is, Be Like Pablo was featured as The Scotland on Sunday's artist of the week, who praised the band's pop sensibilities and catchy hooks.[16] Follow up single, My Kind of Girl was selected as Janice Forsyth's Single of the Week on her BBC Radio Scotland show.[17]
