Basilio Antonio Fergus Alexander (Panama City; October 13, 1947-Miami; October 11, 2009) known artistically as Basilio, was a singer-songwriter and panamanian musician from the 1970s and 1980s
Life and Career
[edit]He spent most of his artistic career in Spain after having studied medicine in France. In 1972 he got the 2nd place award in the Festival OTI's First Edition representing his country, Panama, with the song Oh, Señor (In Spanish: Oh, Lord).
Some of his most known songs are Ve con él (Go with him), Vivir lo nuestro (Living our thing), Tierras lejanas (Distant lands), Tú ni te imaginas (You can't even imagine), Demasiado amor (Too Much Love), Costumbres (Costumes), Tanto tanto amor (So much love), Cisne cuello negro (Black-necked swan), Me estoy muriendo por dentro (I'm dying inside) and Te llevaré una rosa (I will bring to you a rose), which were sung and played in every music genre style like ballads and pop music. While in Panama, he achieved composing the song Como tú (Like You) and Tú ni te imaginas (You Can't Even Imagine).
In May 2008 he got an brain attack after arriving in Cali (Colombia) as a part of a concert tour with other artists.[1]
Also in his last years he served as a consul of Panama in the city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
Personal Life
[edit]He was married with Patricia Sterling, he got four children: Shara Nicole Fergus (Neufeld), Krystal Anne Fergus, Michael Alexis Fergus, Brandon Fergus.
Death
[edit]On Sunday, October 11, 2009, the singer died because of a bronchopneumonia, at his home in Miami.[2] His wife, Patricia Sterling, confirmed it saying to the press: “In Early May, He (Basilio) got a brain attack caused by a concert, he started with his treatment, during this days he got a pneumonia. His fatal ending happened while he was having breakfast during the morning”.
