Bangladesh Railway Class 2100 is a meter-gauge diesel electric locomotive class of Bangladesh Railway. They were manufactured by General Electric (GE) of USA. Total 10 locomotives of this class entered the fleet of the then East Pakistan in 1964.[1] None of them are currently in service.
Builders details
[edit]The Class 2100 locomotives were built by General Electric at its USA plant,[which?] Canada. These 10 locomotives, numbered 2101-2110, were delivered to the Pakistan Eastern Railway in 1964.
These locomotives were painted and delivered in Pakistan Eastern Railway cream-yellow or white livery.
Technical details
[edit]The Class 2100 is a 1,370 hp locomotive, based on General Electric's UM13C export model. It uses a 4-cycle Model 7FDL-8T Bore & Stroke: 9" * 10.5" Cooper Bessemer diesel prime mover. The wheel arrangement of this locomotive is Co-Co.
The Bangladesh Railway specification of this locomotive is 'G. E. U. - 14'. Here - G stands for General Electric, E Stands for diesel electric, U stands for model UM13C and 14 stands for locomotive horsepower (x100).
Usage
[edit]In the early days, Class 2100 locomotives were ultilised for hauling freight trains on the Bangladeshi metre-gauge network. Currently, class 2100 locomotives are nonexistent. The parts of the locomotives are used in Bangladesh Railway Class 2500.[failed verification][2]
The Class 2100 locomotive was considered a lifeline for freight services of Pakistan Eastern Railway.
