Bangladesh Islami Chhatrisangstha (Bengali for Female Students' Islamic Organization of Bangladesh) is a female student political organization based in Bangladesh. It was established on 15 July 1978[1]. It is commonly recognized as the female student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Notwithstanding, in recent times the organization has been under mounting pressure from the Bangladesh government led by Awami League[2][3]
History
[edit]The organization was established on 15 July 1978 at Eden Mohila College in Dhaka. Primarily, it started with 11 students[4]. The aim and objective of this organization is ''to obtain the pleasure of Allah by turning the female students into ideal Muslim ladies on the basis of the Quran and the Sunnah so that they can perform their Islamic responsibilities leading to peace in this world and eternal bliss in the next world''[1].
Overview
[edit]The public engagement of the female organization is often limited due to religious constraints.Furthermore, the organization has been compelled to operate clandestinely due to recent governmental pressure. For these reasons, its activities are rarely reported in mainstream media in Bangladesh. Nevertheless, political analysts considered this organization important for its influence among religious female Muslim students[5].
According to the organization's policy, its activities are guided by three principles[1]-
- Invitation- To widely propagate the message of Islam to female students.
- Organization and Training- To unite the female students and to impart training to them resulting in the promotion of their moral life.
- Problem Solving- To strive to establish the honor of the female students in society and try to solve the multifarious problems they face.
Only Muslim female students can have the membership of the organization.
