Avinash Ramani
[edit]Avinash Ramani is an Indian researcher and entrepreneur renowned for his contributions to genomics and molecular diagnostics. Inspired by a personal loss to cancer, Ramani focused on cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in cancer diagnostics, leading to the co-founding of Acrannolife Genomics[1]. With over a decade of experience, he has developed advanced diagnostic tests and holds several patents in the field.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Avinash Ramani was born in Chennai, India, and did his schooling in various cities across India. He did his BTech in Biotech, and then Masters in Bioinformatics from AU-KBC Research Centre, Anna University[2]. He then pursued his research from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M). A family event of the death of the grandfather of Avinash to cancer had a significant impact on him and motivated him to pursue a career in research.
While researching on molecular signaling of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and the potential role of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in elucidating cancer progress & treatment response, it was found that the cfDNA-based diagnostics to be a commercially viable diagnostics proposition. This sparked a broader interest in the various other roles of cfDNA in molecular diagnostics, including identifying the utility of cfDNA in the early detection of any adverse events in solid-organ transplantations. The above background of the family event and the research experiences laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the field of genomics, leading to the birth of Acrannolife Genomics Pvt. Ltd.[3]. With a vision to make all kinds of advanced genomics & molecular testing accessible to all, a company dedicated to addressing the needs in transplantation and other genomics & molecular testing.
Career
[edit]Avinash Ramani co-founded Acrannolife Genomics where he serves as the Chief Scientific Officer to date. With over a decade of teaching & research experience at various prestigious institutions, he has established himself as a leading figure in the fields of Immunology, Molecular Diagnostics, Advanced Clinical Genomics, and Bioinformatics. He also has experience in clinical research, including Clinical Data Management & Clinical Trials Management from his brief stint as a Part-time Clinical Research Coordinator at Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road, Chennai. He also worked for a few months as an intern and content writer at a popular health site at Medindia[4]. He pursued part-time jobs during research.
Contributions and Achievements
[edit]Avinash Ramani is recognized for his innovative work, which has resulted in the grant of a US Patent and scores of other patented technologies. He has received multiple grants from various government bodies, enabling him to develop scalable genomics testing for chronic diseases. His groundbreaking contributions have positioned him as one of India's foremost thought leaders in his field.
Avinash Ramani has made groundbreaking contributions to the fields of oncology and genomics through his innovative research and entrepreneurial endeavors. While researching renal cell carcinoma (RCC), he discovered the potential of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in diagnosing minimal residual disease (MRD), leading to significant advancements in early cancer detection and monitoring. This discovery spurred his further investigation into the broader applications of cfDNA, particularly in transplantation, where he identified its potential for non-invasive diagnostics. Driven by a vision to make advanced genomic testing accessible to all, Avinash Ramani Co-founded Acrannolife Genomics[5], a company dedicated to addressing the needs in transplantation and other genomics testing. Under his leadership, the company has developed cutting-edge genomic tests that have improved diagnostic accuracy and patient care. Avinash has also published numerous research papers in prestigious journals and holds several patents for innovative techniques in cfDNA and genomics testing.
