On August 22, 2024, a 14 year old girl was raped while travelling in a cycle to home, after finishing her tuition classes, she was raped by three men when they surrounded her, in the town of Dhing, a minority-dominated town in Nagoan District, Assam.[1] Locals have found the girl lying in unconscious state and injured around 6:30 pm IST near roadside pond, and She was admitted to a Hospital for further medical examination. Assam Police had arrested the three suspects, one of them, identified as Tafujal Islam escaped from police custody and jumped into a pond and died[2]

Chief Minister of Assam, Himata Biswa Sarma, called it as "Crime Against Humanity"[3]

Congress MLA, Sibamoni Bora, attacked Sarma and said, "he should give it(the portfolio), so that, our women will be safe and law and order can be improved"[4]

DGP of Assam, G.P.Singh visited the family of the victim and spoken to them, and also alerted to the IG, Nagaon District SP and DC about the information[5][6]
