Aspen Insurance Holdings

Aspen Insurance Holdings is a Bermuda-headquartered specialty insurance and reinsurance company. It has operations in Bermuda, the United States, Europe, and Singapore, and writes business internationally.[1]

History

Aspen was founded in 2002[2]. In 2003, Aspen Insurance went public on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol AHL. [3] In 2018, it was acquired by Apollo Global Management for an equity value of approximately $2.6 billion.[4]

Following the acquisition, Chris O’Kane stepped down as Group Chief Executive,[5] and Mark Cloutier replaced him as Group CEO and Chairman.[6]

In 2022, Aspen completed a loss portfolio transfer agreement (LPT) with Enstar Group Ltd.[7] with Enstar assuming net loss reserves of $3.12 billion.[8]

In July 2024, Aspen announced leadership changes, appointing Christian Dunleavy as Group President [9] and Mark Pickering as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. [10]

Ratings

In 2022, S&P affirmed Aspen Bermuda, AAIC, and Aspen UK with financial strength ratings of "A-" (Strong) with a stable outlook.[11] In July 2024, A.M. Best affirmed the financial strength rating of "A" (Excellent) for Aspen Bermuda, Aspen UK, Aspen Specialty, and AAIC.[12]
