The 127 is a bus service run by Arriva Midlands East. It runs between St. Margaret's Bus Station in Leicester to Shepshed via Belgrave, Birstall, Rothley, Mountsorrel, Quorn and Loughborough.
The service has existed since at least the early 1990s, when it was operated by Midland Fox, the predecessor of Arriva Midlands East; in the late 1990s it was partially operated by Kinchbus.
During the 2000s and early 2010s the 127 ran every thirty minutes between Leicester and Anson Road in Shepshed, with its frequency being combined with that of the service 126, which shares the route of the 127 between Leicester and Shepshed town centre, with two buses an hour terminating at the Bull Ring in Shepshed and two buses an hour continuing to Coalville via Thringstone and Whitwick (all during the daytime on weekdays).
In the mid-2010s the daytime journeys of the 126 to Coalville were replaced by an extended service 16, which runs between Loughborough and Coalville; the frequency of the 127 was increased to every 12 minutes during weekday daytimes; this was later cut back to every 15 minutes. As a result, the 126 only ran on weekday evenings as well as a single morning run towards Leicester, while the Sunday service of the 126 terminating at Shepshed Bull Ring was replaced by Sunday services on the 127 for the first time.
In 2022, every other journey of the 127 on weekdays was curtailed to Old Ashby Road in Loughborough, terminating near Pitsford Drive, with buses only running through to Shepshed every thirty minutes. The evening journeys of the 126 were withdrawn, being replaced by extra evening journeys on the 16 and 127, while the one early morning 126 service towards Leicester was renumbered as a 127.
In April 2024 the frequency was reduced further to every 20 minutes off-peak (4 buses an hour at peak times), and weekday services were rerouted around Shepshed to use the route previously only used on Sundays.
