Are You Garbage?[1] (also known as AYG) is a popular American podcast hosted by comedians H. Foley and Kevin Ryan. The show has over 214,000 YouTube subscribers[2] and ranks in the Top 100 listened to Podcasts on Apple Podcasts, currently at #66[3]. The subscribers-only AYG Patreon account has over 13,000 members.[4]
While both hosts hail from the Philadelphia area, the show developed in the New York City comedy scene and has featured many prominent New York comics.[5] Several iterations of the show failed to gain traction, including "Hard Feelings", before the current two host podcast format took off[5]. Guests have included Tom Segura, Mark Normand, Louis C.K., Bert Kreischer, Dave Attell, Iliza Shlesinger, and dozens of others.[5]
Theme
[edit]The premise of the show is interviewing comedians and celebrities with questions aimed to determine if the guest is "a classy individual" or "absolute trash".[6][7] The show purports to broadcast from "Aunt Tuddy's House", decorated with tacky tchotchkes. Humorous questions are asked to determine if the guest is trash, e.g., "Do you steal the shampoo from hotels? Own a George Forman Grill? Pee in the pool?"[2] The show also holds "family episodes" where the hosts read class-or-trash questions submitted by listeners.[6] On stand up tours, Foley and Ryan will also play AYG with the audience, fielding questions from the crowd.
