Anirudh Pisharody (born 2 February 1994)[citation needed] is an Indian-American film actor.
He is best known for his role as "Des" in Never Have I Ever (2020), and "Ravi Panikkar" in 9-1-1 (2018).[1] He was the recipient of the 2023 Snow Leopard Rising Star Award at the 9th Annual Asian World Film Festival.[2][3][4] He has also starred in Big Sky,The Goldbergs, and Last Man Standing. He will appear in the upcoming film Unit 234 with Don Johnson and Isabella Fuhrman.[5][6]
Anirudh Pisharody was born on February 2nd 1994 in Pune, Maharashtra, India to Malayalee parents.[7][8] He immigrated to the United States as a child,[9] first to Virginia[10] before settling in Austin, Texas[11]. He grew up performing in local theatre productions, noting that he had a "very quiet Southern upbringing".[12]
Pisharody began acting in elementary school, doing various school productions, before eventually taking theater as an elective in middle school. While he was always passionate about acting — deeming himself a "theater kid" — he "didn't think it could be a full-time career."[12]
Pisharody attended McNeil High School from 2008, where he was involved in Diversity Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Tennis Club and Heroes of Tomorrow, before graduating in 2012.[13] He described himself as "a nerdy guy", stating "when I was in high school [popularity] was definitely [not] associated with those groups. And, especially being an Indian person, I can't think of any of my friends who were living the traditional American high school life".[14]
Pisharody went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a degree in Public Health in 2016.[15][16] Citing familial pressures by his immigrant parents to pursue a stable career field,[12] Pisharody "..never thought I'd continue acting, so I decided to do pre-med in college and kicked around for four years doing that. I got a degree in public health, took my MCATs and everything."[17]
