Andrew Kwabena Asamoah (born December 18, 1945) is a Ghanaian entrepreneur and philanthropist, known for founding and serving as the executive chairman of A&C Development Limited, which operates Ghana's first commercial lifestyle retail center, A&C Mall.[1]

Early life and education

Asamoah was born on December 18, 1945, in [Place of Birth]. He completed his G.C.E "O" Levels from the Royal Society of Arts in 1964.[2] In 1970, he earned a Certificate in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin, USA, and further obtained a Diploma and Advanced Diploma from the School of Journalism and Television in the United Kingdom the same year.[3]

In 1972, Asamoah became an Associate of the Institute of Commerce in the UK, followed by becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1974.[4] He later pursued legal studies, earning a law degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, in 1983, and qualified as a Barrister at Law after completing the Nigeria Law School in 1984.[5] He was awarded a Doctorate degree in Business Administration with a focus on Leadership and Innovation from the Swiss School of Business and Management in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2021.[6]

Asamoah's career spans multiple industries and continents. He has served as the Founder and Chairman of A&C Development Co. Ltd since 2004.[7] His involvement in various organizations includes roles on the Ghana National Pension Implementation Committee and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Council of Indigenous Business Association Pension Scheme.[8]

Asamoah also had a long tenure with the World Health Organization (WHO) from 1970 to 1999, where he held positions such as Information Analyst, Administrative Officer, and Chief of Personnel Administration and Staff Support Services.[9] His roles included assignments at the WHO Regional Office for Africa in Congo and at WHO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.[10]

Philanthropy

Asamoah is a trustee of the Otumfuor Osei Tutu II Foundation, a charitable organization that implements initiatives in education, healthcare, water, and sanitation across Ghana.[11]

Honors and recognition

Asamoah has received several awards for his work, including the EY Entrepreneur of the Year (West Africa) award in 2014[12] and the Maverick Business Academy Award in 2021.[13]

Personal life

Asamoah is fluent in English, French, and Akan. He is married with four children.[14]
