Alexander Claffy (born June 9, 1992) is an American jazz bassist.
Biography
[edit]Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Claffy was raised in a music household guided by his father who was a pianist, and his mom, a vocalist. Coming up in Philadelphia, he learned to play electric bass the traditional upright bass. Playing jazz on and off the bandstand, he worked with Philadelphia natives like bassists Mike Boone, Gregg August, Peter Paulsen, and Dwayne Bruno. He studied at the New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City and graduated in 2015. Since, he has played with artists including Jimmy Cobb, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Louis Hayes, Harold Mabern, Christian Scott, Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, and more. In the past he has recorded for the record labels like the Verve, Highnote, Posi-Tone, RopeADope, and LaReserve record labels.
