Alex Makes Meals (AMM) is a non-profit organization based in Melbourne, Australia, founded during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 by Alex Dekker[1]. The initiative began with the preparation of a homemade lasagna that quickly evolved into a broader mission to combat food insecurity among vulnerable populations in Melbourne.[2]

The purpose of AMM is to ensure that individuals facing hardship, including the homeless and disadvantaged families, have access to nutritious meals. The organization has grown significantly since its inception, driven by community support and the efforts of numerous volunteers. AMM seeks to address not only the immediate nutritional needs but also the social implications of food insecurity, such as social isolation and health disparities.[3]

AMM now delivers over 3,000 meals weekly to various locations throughout Melbourne[4], supported by a network of more than 80 volunteers. These meals are distributed to people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and other forms of disadvantage. Through its work, AMM fosters a sense of community and hope, illustrating the impact of collective effort in addressing urban social challenges.
