Alan Grundy was born in Dublin, Ireland on September 2nd 1950. He began playing the guitar at the age of 14. After being self-taught for several years, his serious studies began with Louis Stewart (prominent Jazz Guitarist). Further studies at the Dylan Todd School of Classical Guitar, Dublin began in 1975 and the following year he was offered his first professional post as a Guitar teacher. In 1977, he began lecturing at The People's College, Dublin, and further posts at the College of Music and St Columba's College, Dublin followed shortly afterwards. During the 1980's and 1990's he worked closely with the Spanish Cultural Institute and the Instituto Cervantes giving recitals and lectures on the Spanish Classical Guitar. In 1993, Alan gave the Official Recital marking the centenary of the birth of the great Spanish Guitarist Andreas Segovia at the Hugh Lane Art Gallery Dublin, premiering 'Homage to Segovia' (a sonata in three movements by Donal Hurley).
