Alain Getraud (born 1970) is a French engineer, entrepreneur, and investor, best known as the co-founder and leader of Le Train[1], the first private French high-speed train company[2]. He has played a pivotal role in major railway projects, particularly during his tenure at SNCF, and has established himself as a key figure in innovation across infrastructure, mobility, and sustainable development.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Alain Getraud holds degrees in civil engineering and mathematical biology. He completed his engineering training at the École Supérieure des Cadres de l’Équipement[3] in 2001. Before this, he earned a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers[4] in 1997 and a Bachelor's degree in Mathematical Biology from Pierre and Marie Curie University (Paris VI) in 1994.
Career
[edit]SNCF and Major Projects (2010–2016)
From 2010 to 2016, Alain Getraud managed large-scale projects for SNCF, serving as the Director of Major Projects in Bordeaux. Among the most notable initiatives was the LGV Sud Europe Atlantique project, a €1.5 billion investment to enhance railway infrastructure in southwest France. He was responsible for overseeing the project’s execution, ensuring the delivery of civil works, commissioning industrial equipment, and guaranteeing network safety and reliability.
Le Train (Since 2020)
In 2020, Getraud co-founded Le Train, the first private French high-speed train company[5]. The company aims to reshape the French railway landscape by offering commercial high-speed services across the western regions of the country.
In December 2022, Le Train received its operating license, and in January 2023 signed a €300m contract with Spanish train manufacturer Talgo to deliver 10 AVRIL single-deck high-speed trains. Le Train is expected to launch operations in 2028. Under Getraud's leadership, Le Train has pursued the ambitious goal of revolutionizing the French rail market with a business model centered on innovation, service quality, and sustainability.
L'Ingénierie Des Possibles (Since 2019)
Alain Getraud also leads L'Ingénierie Des Possibles, an investment holding company he founded in 2019.
