Ahead is a software company based in Berlin, Germany, focusing on emotional intelligence and management.[1] It offers science-backed activities, techniques, and other tools on its subscription-based apps to help people better understand and manage their emotions.[2]

The app that is also known as the "Duolingo for emotional intelligence", was developed in collaboration with behaviour-change scientists trained at the University of Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard to ensure a scientifically grounded approach to behaviour change.[3]

History

[edit]

Ahead was founded in 2020, by Kai Koch and John Roggan.

As of October 2024, the company had raised contributions from the founders of Casper Sleep, Tier Mobility, Blinkist, N26, Vivino, Busuu and many more. Ahead has contributions from venture capital firms like Speedinvest, Goodwater Capital, and Play Ventures.[4]

Ahead was voted Apple's App of the Day in 10+ different countries[5][4] and was a finalist of the Apple Design Awards in the Social Impact category in 2024.[6]

As of October 2024, the mobile application has over 3,000,0000 members and carries a 4.7 star rating in the Apple App Store with over 10,000 5-star ratings.[5]

Product

[edit]

Ahead primarily offers a subscription-based mobile app available on iOS devices.[5]

The app offers emotional support in 6 different areas, also known as different "journeys":

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Negativity
  • Procrastination
  • Heartbreak
  • Insecurity

Each journey has short and structured lessons, known as "activities", where users are able to learn more about their specific problems. Users are then able to apply what they've learned by using any of the science-backed techniques offered. There is also a reflection tool where users can record certain emotional moments to identify what may have triggered it.[7]

The app also offers a community section where users can connect with others, share experiences, and learn from one another.

Users can also track their emotional moments and track their progress over time.[8]
