Afua Owusu Asantewaa Aduonum (born 11 May 1990), better known as Afua Asantewaa, is a Ghanaian media personality, journalist, and entrepreneur. She is the chief executive officer of Askof Productions Ltd, organizers of the Ghana Outstanding Women Awards, the Pose For Africa Models Reality Show, and Miss KiDi Ghana.

In December 2023, she attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon. She sang for 126 hours and 52 minutes, but her attempt was not successful due to guidelines around rest break timings not being met.[1]

On December 21, 2024, Afua Asantewaa began her second attempt to set the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual. The event commenced at dawn at Heroes’ Park, located within the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana. This ambitious endeavor highlights her dedication to achieving this extraordinary feat and further solidifies her commitment to her craft as a vocalist.[2][3][4][5]

Early life and career

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum was born on 11 May 1990.

Asantewaa began her career as a journalist and worked for several Ghanaian media companies. She is the chief executive officer of Askof Productions Ltd, organizers of the Ghana Outstanding Women Awards, the Pose For Africa Models Reality Show, and Miss Kidi Ghana.[6][7]

Asantewaa is married to sports journalist Kofi Aduonum.[8] They have three children.[9]

Longest singing marathon record

In December 2023, Asantewaa announced she would be attempting to break the record for the longest individual singing marathon.[10][11][12][13][14][15][16] She began singing on 24 December 2023, at Akwaaba village, located in Accra, Ghana. She broke the record on 28 December 2023.[17][18] On 29 December 2023, Asantewaa concluded her attempt, having sung for 126 hours and 52 minutes.[19][20][21][22] The record has yet to be verified.[23]

The reigning world record holder for the longest singing marathon in the Guinness Book of Records, Sunil Waghmare, sang for 105 hours in 2012.[24][25] Many prominent Ghanaian individuals also travelled to show their support and appreciation for Asantewaa. This includes Ghanaian musicians such as KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Kojo Antwi, Fancy Gadam, Sista Afia, Efya, Wendy Shay, Celestine Donkor, Obaapa Christy; Shatter Wale, actors such as Nana Ama McBrown, Salinko, Akrobeto, and Fella Makafui, as well as Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.[26]

Her attempt to break the Guinness Book of Records was unsuccessful. According to officials at the Guinness World Records, she was disqualified because she did not obey to some of their rules.[27][28][29]

Following her attempt, Asantewaa was named tourism ambassador.[30][31][32][33]

Asantewaa disclosed how she will host another singathon in Kumasi in December. According to Asantewaa, she said “The fact that I was not successful in my first attempt shouldn’t be a barrier to my quest of becoming a Guinness World record holder.”[34][35][36]

In November 14 2024, Asantewaa disclosed on instagram that she will be embarking on another Guinness World Records attempt which is ‘longest singing marathon’ in December 21, 2024.[37]

On December 26, 2024, she concluded her second Guinness World Records Singathon attempt at 121 hours, 39 minutes.[38][39][40][41]

Ambassadorial Deals

Following her attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon, Afua Owusu Asantewaa Aduonum has secured several ambassadorship deals in Ghana. These partnerships underscore her growing influence and recognition within the country, both as an artist and a public figure.[42]


  • On December 30, 2023, Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum was appointed as Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador. This recognition came after her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon. The appointment reflects her efforts in promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage and her role in enhancing the country’s international profile.[43][44][45]
