Biography

[edit]

Ada Cartianu was born in Bucharest, Romania on August 15, 1978. Ada descends from a lineage steeped in history. A descendant of Enache Cartianu, the patriarch of a prominent Romanian family, her heritage is intertwined with a rich, albeit tumultuous, cultural tapestry. Growing up, Ada Cartianu was fortunate to be immersed in an environment rich in academic and artistic pursuits. A pivotal early experience was her childhood encounters with the Cula Cartianu, a historic family estate that now serves as a museum. Construction of the Cula began in 1715, culminating in the completion of its first iteration in 1760 after a series of architectural modifications.

From childhood, Ada Cartianu nurtured a dual artistic passion, expressing herself through both words and colors. Her love for painting flourished under the influence of her great-grandfather, renowned Romanian painter C.V. Ionescu. A significant chapter in her great-grandfather's life involved hosting the celebrated sculptor Constantin Brancusi during the artist's return to Romania to create his iconic monuments in Târgu Jiu ("The Table of Silence," "The Gate of the Kiss," "The Obelisk of Infinity"). Through sketches and anecdotes shared by her great-grandfather, Ada discovered the profound beauty of simplicity, the sophistication of Romanian folk art, and the boundless freedom of human imagination and expression.

At 13, Ada Cartianu enrolled in art classes at the "Popular Art School Sector 2" in Bucharest, eager to cultivate her passion under the guidance of Professor Kessler. While she appreciated the opportunity to learn classical painting and drawing techniques, she soon found herself stifled. The dogmatic and rigid approach, prioritizing strict order over individual expression, clashed with her belief that true artistic voice stems from unbridled imagination and freedom.

Conflicted between her own unique artistic vision and the school's restrictive demands, Ada ultimately decided to leave and pursue her studies under the mentorship of a private tutor, seeking a more personalized and nurturing environment for her artistic growth. Ada's private tutor was Mugur Marin, a young graduate of the "Tonitza Art School," he encouraged Ada to embrace her unique perspective, urging her to create art that reflected her own internal and external experiences. He instilled in her the importance of trusting her imagination, guiding her to understand that art can manifest in any form as long as it authentically reflects the artist's inner self.

Ada's artistic journey has been profoundly influenced by a diverse range of masters, including Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi, Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, Spanish painters Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, and Pablo Picasso, French painters Toulouse-Lautrec, Marc Chagall, and Constantin Andréou, Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Austrian painter Gustav Klimt, Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, and American painters Jean-Michel Basquiat and Jackson Pollock.

Career

[edit]

While Ada Cartianu revels in the expressive power of color and paint, literature will forever hold a special place in her heart. For many years, she pursued a successful career as a writer and philosopher, publishing several books in Romania and USA.

In January 2005, after completing her university studies, she relocated to Chicago, USA. Inspired by the encouragement of renowned Chicago Bulls basketball player B.J. Armstrong and author Tim Egan (Chicago), Ada sought to bridge the gap between her literary and artistic pursuits. This led her to embark on a professional career as a fine artist in early 2010.

Driven by a long-held dream and a desire to express her philosophy of life through visual means, Ada eagerly sought to discover the impact of her new paintings within the vibrant art scenes of Chicago, New York, Miami, Sarasota, Barcelona, Madrid, Florence, and other major cities.

Ada Cartianu began her literary journey at a young age under the mentorship of her grandfather, Eftimie Cartianu. She was passionate about writing and started creating stories, essays, and poems while still a child. Her early exposure to literature, combined with a natural affinity for storytelling, fueled her desire to write professionally later in life. Her insightful and uplifting works explore themes of self-discovery, personal growth, and finding inner peace. Recent titles from her pen include "Color Through Self," "ALIVE," "A Quiet Knowing," "You Are a Miracle," "Grief is Just Love," "The Courage of Being You," "The Shift Within," and "Whispers in Twilight." Through her evocative prose, Ada Cartianu invites readers on a journey of self-reflection and empowers them to live a more fulfilling and authentic life.
